Typical timing
No Menard County tax sale calendar is published. Texas Tax Code § 34.01 sets the sale for the first Tuesday of the month; the statewide procedure page maintained by Perdue Brandon Fielder Collins & Mott states that Texas law requires "sales be held on the first Tuesday of the month, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m." at a location designated by the Commissioners Court. Confirm any Menard County date by phone before travelling.

Registration and deposit

No county-published bidder registration procedure was found. Under the statewide Texas procedure described by Perdue Brandon Fielder Collins & Mott, "a person must be registered as a bidder with the county tax assessor-collector before the sale begins" and a bidder must present "a written statement from the county tax assessor-collector stating that the bidder has no delinquent taxes due" (Tex. Tax Code § 34.015). Most counties take cash or cashier's check. Request the written statement and confirm registration mechanics with the Menard County Tax Assessor-Collector at 325-396-4523.

Menard County publishes no dedicated tax sale, sheriff sale, or struck-off property page. The county website's only sale-notice page is "Foreclosure and Trustee Sale Notices," and every notice posted there through July 2026 is a deed-of-trust trustee sale, not a tax foreclosure sale. No online auction platform is named anywhere on the county site, so no platform_url is reported; treat the sale as an in-person courthouse sale conducted by the Sheriff or a Constable under Tex. Tax Code § 34.01 until the county states otherwise. Menard County does not appear on MVBA's monthly Texas tax sale schedule, and it is not among the 31 counties and entities listed on Perdue Brandon's tax sale listings page. Both the Sheriff (325-396-4705) and the Precinct 1 Constable are staffed offices in Menard. Because this is a very small rural county, sales are infrequent and are typically noticed at the courthouse and in the local newspaper rather than online. Call the Tax Assessor-Collector and the Sheriff to confirm whether a sale is scheduled.

Over-the-counter (leftover) purchases

Texas has no over-the-counter certificate list. Parcels that draw no sufficient bid are struck off to the taxing unit that requested the order of sale, and that unit may resell them at any time by public or private sale. A public resale requested through the sheriff or constable may be sold for any amount. A private sale generally may not go below the lesser of the market value stated in the judgment or the total judgments against the property, unless every taxing unit entitled to proceeds consents. Ask the county or its delinquent-tax law firm for the current struck-off inventory.

Notes for Menard County

  • Menard County has no county-specific tax sale page. Contacts and office names are verified from the official county website; sale timing and registration reflect the statewide Texas Tax Code procedure, not a county posting.
  • Tax Assessor-Collector is Tim Powell (also County Elections Officer); Deputy is Dixie Sletten. The office page directs property tax questions to the Menard County Appraisal District.
  • Menard County Appraisal District: 110 Bevans Street / PO Box 1008, Menard, TX 76859, 325-396-4784. Its site carries no tax sale, struck-off, or delinquent-attorney information.
  • Sheriff Burl Hagler, 208 Tipton / PO Box 307, Menard, TX 76859, 325-396-4705. Precinct 1 Constable Lee Callan, PO Box 398, Menard, TX 76859, 325-396-4705. Neither office page mentions tax sales.
  • County Clerk Cindy Cheek, 206 E. San Saba / PO Box 1038, Menard, TX 76859, 325-396-4682. The sheriff's or constable's deed is filed here, which starts the redemption clock under Tex. Tax Code § 34.21.
  • A DuckDuckGo snippet referenced a Menard County Appraisal District board notice about approving a contingent fee delinquent-tax-collection contract with Perdue Brandon Fielder Collins & Mott, LLP, but the underlying PDF is a scanned image that could not be read, so the firm assignment is NOT confirmed and is not reported as fact.
  • Search-result trap: articles titled "Menard County Tax Sale Is Tuesday, November 25" refer to Menard County, ILLINOIS (Petersburg Observer), not Texas. Do not use them.
  • Source-quality caveat: the pbfcm.com homepage returned injected casino/gambling spam links, though the taxsale.html and taxforeclosuresalefaq.html pages returned coherent firm content. Prefer the Texas Tax Code itself for any statutory fact; treat the PBFCM FAQ as corroboration only.
  • Upgrade path to data_quality high: obtain a Menard County sale notice or bidder-registration form directly from the Tax Assessor-Collector or Sheriff, or confirm which delinquent tax law firm and auction venue the county uses.

Texas statewide rules

Redemption
The redemption clock runs from the date the purchaser's deed is filed for record, not from the sale date. Property that was the owner's residence homestead or was land designated for agricultural use when the suit or the warrant application was filed, and any mineral interest, may be redeemed on or before the second anniversary of that filing. Every other property may be redeemed only through the 180th day after the deed is filed. When a parcel is struck off to a taxing unit instead, the period runs from the date the taxing unit's deed is filed for record. The former owner has no right to use, possess, or collect rent from the property while the redemption right runs, and the right of redemption cannot be sold or transferred: any instrument purporting to transfer it is void.
Deed deposit
The Tax Code sets no statewide deposit and no buyer premium. Section 34.01 directs the officer to conduct the sale the way similar property is sold under execution, so payment terms are set locally by the officer who runs the sale. Most Texas counties collect the full bid in cash or by cashier's check on the day of the sale. Confirm the terms with the county before you bid.
Homestead deeds
Texas sets no separate opening bid for a homestead. What changes on a homestead parcel is the exit: a residence homestead, land designated for agricultural use when the suit or warrant application was filed, and a mineral interest all carry a two-year redemption right instead of 180 days, and the premium the owner pays can reach 50 percent in the second year. Price a homestead parcel for that longer clock.
Surplus proceeds
The officer pays any excess proceeds to the clerk of the court that issued the order of sale. The clerk holds the excess for two years after the sale and notifies the former owner when the amount exceeds $25. A claim must be filed before the second anniversary of the sale. The court pays established claims in statutory priority: a purchaser at a sale later adjudged void, taxing units for post-judgment or omitted taxes, other lienholders, taxing units for unsatisfied judgment amounts, and then the former owner. Anything unclaimed is distributed to the taxing units.
Governing statute
Tex. Tax Code Chapter 34

A tax deed does not convey marketable title. Most buyers file a quiet title action before they can resell or insure the property. See the due diligence guide.
